About JMP Support

John Pearson Maths Support:

Welcome to JMP Support. Here you will find information about my background and JMP Support.

I have been in education for many years; starting as a teacher and becoming a maths coordinator, deputy headteacher and a headteacher of two successful primary schools. I have taught in London (ILEA), Worcestershire, Dudley, Nottinghamshire, North Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire.

I am enthusiastic about maths education and believe that all children can succeed and enjoy learning maths if they are given the right environment and support.

The key to getting this right for the adults working with the children, is to understand how learning maths works. Understanding the child's viewpoint is crucial and leads to insights that enable adults to provide effective teaching and support for children learning maths.

The right strategic approach taken by school leaders makes a big difference to the outcomes for children and I focus much of my support in this area. I work with schools where there is a need to improve outcomes in maths and support headteachers and maths coordinators.

My qualifications include an honours degree in mathematics (UCL), a postgraduate certificate in education (London University), an early years certificate (Bishop Grosseteste College), an MEd (Hull University) and a special needs certificate (Open University).
